This stage if the foundation has definitely been imperative to the progression of my work, style and technical skills. within the first project I was able to experiment with a range of ideas and concepts which I have wanted to explore for a while as I have had a strong interest in minimalism and lines since my a level project.
Although I already had ideas on what I intended to base my first project around, the foundation has allowed me to explore a range of idea and enhance idea development and my use of materials and methods. For example I was able to make installation art and use methods such as video and photography, things that I would not have previously thought of to use within my work and consequently enriching the quality of my studies. This has made me feel although I have accomplished my best work as it has pushed me to work harder than before and concentrate on refinement and reflection through focuses such minimalism.
The second project within this stage was also important and changed the way I thought of my art as it made me loosen up in terms of subject matter as I worked a lot with textures and pattern which consequently made my work more messy and experimental with techniques and methods instead of having a focus on refinement like my previous project. This also opened me up to a range of approaches towards fine art as I have made things such as video pieces and scarfs which have added another dimension and commercial side to my work, making me think in more depth about morals and money making within the art world and how I feel I would fit into it.
The lecture in this stage have been extremely eye opening as inspiration as they have showed me a range of artists and concepts that I had not seen before such as first and second wave feminism as well as ideas on how to have fun and keep an artist’s work positive. This has made me think about how I will be able to use these ideas within my present work and in my future studies, being invaluable to my intellectual knowledge and influencing my practical work. This along with practical workshops such as the painting workshop, sewing tutorial and talk on how to present and investigates conceptual qualities in your work have pushed my art theory, meaning and depth in my work even more.
Finally unit 6 within this stage has been extremely stressful but still helpful and practical as it has allowed me to consider my future ambitions and hopes more and takes into consideration where I would like to continue further education and how I feel I am best taught, for example, after looking into universities I feel I am best suited somewhere with high levels of competition as I feel in this environment is where I wilt hive best as it will push me to become more like an artists and try to be my absolute best.
