REVIEW

Throughout this week i feel that i have effectively begun the assemble section by creating more refined and professional pieces. By doing this i have been able to bring together various aspects of my previous work whilst evaluating them and reflecting on their weaknesses and highlights in order to create more work which is the best of my ability. In order to assemble my work i have focused on methods such as triptychs and diptychs which i feel has been fairly successful as it allowed me to experiment with inverting colours, different sizes and showing a contrast of styles. I have also done pieces which are more of a collection in the style of Tobias Buche, and insulation pieces in the style of Eva Hesse. I feel this style of working is effective for me as at the moment it allowed me to experiment with a range of different aesthetics, styles and materials at the same time. I also feel this is suited to me as some of my work is fairley quick to produce, meaning i can utilise my time to create larger scale pieces. Next week i intend to get more primary materials to inform my work, as this is a very important aspect that i am missing and as a result limiting both my idea and material development. Therefore i may take photos of lines in nature and technology.

I feel that my artist research this week has been effective as i have been able to collect a range of artists that work in a similar ways to me with similar ideas, but also have been able to refine their studies to a higher, more professional standard, consequently pushing me to create pieces to a similar standard. This has also made me think more latterly as i am willing to make my work different and unique to other artists i have found, in attempt to prevent me from copying other artists too closely and instead be inspired and motivated by them. This has consequently made me concentrate on the assemble aspect of the project more deeply, which i feel has added an interesting quality to my work as a result of the concentration on creating a series of coherent pieces. Despite this i hab not yet done a lot of other research or primary research to inform my work. This is a serious downfall in the progression of my work and as a result i have thought about how i can improve this next week for definite. Consequently i intend to do some research on the emergence of minimalist art and the deeper meaning to it, due to the feedback i've received, highlighting the fact that most of my work is in this minimalist style. On top of this i intend to take photos of lines within nature and technology or surroundings. I hope this will inform more of my work and allow me to push and progress my current subject matter.

REFLECTION

Idea development in this stage of my project, i feel, has been positive and successful as i have been able to utilise my time in order to see that my work is refined as much as possible, as a result of my artist research. Consequently meaning that i have developed my highest quality ideas and trials further to form my best work. Moreover my exploration of more artists has allowed me to develop my ideas and concepts, such as minimalism and the beauty of art, to a higher level. For example after looking at artist Roger ackling, i have introduced more 3D pieces with a moe natural and tonal colour scheme. Also after looking at sol lewitt i and considering scale experimentation within my work a lot more. I believe this is very effective and has allowed my work to be of a higher quality. Consequently i intend to collect more materials next week, which shall hopefully allow me to expand on my ideas and range of work.

materials and mediums this week has potentially been limited as i have not explored too deeply as i have not tried a majorly diverse range of materials and instead have tried to utilize and refine my skills which have worked best in the initial week as i felt that this was necessary in order to progress my studies next week in the best possible way. however i have worked with a range of materials that suits my work best and i enjoy using, such as thread, paint and wire. this halt in experimentation has allowed me to focus on other forms of experimentation, such as the size of my pieces, to gain the most interesting and aesthetically pleasing result. furthermore the presentation of my work and how it could potentially be displayed were it be in a gallery or exhibition, giving me further ideas about how i could improve my idea development next week, for example using wood or doing more 3D or textile work. therefore i have made the materials i have previously used as effective as possible.

this week i have received limited amounts of feedback as i have mostly been working independently, as a result i have not had a lot of time to ask for opinions. however i have had general comments and teacher conversations which have influenced my work. for example a comment that my work is very minimalist yet still eye catching has pushed me to experiment with high contrast framing and backgrounds at the same time as using fairly neutral and natural tones. this comment has also lead me to think about genuine natural materials such as wood next week in order to gain this effect even more and extend on my use of materials. i have received some compliments on a particular piece of work, i therefore feel this style is something i could expand on to improve my work as much as possible as it is evidently seen as the most aesthetically pleasing aspect. as a result i have turned the piece into a triptych to give it more interest as well as experimenting with different scales of it in order to find the most effective. i intend to keep doing this next week
