I have now developed my project and have started to look into different archives of photos that my family have, here i have especially looked for ones which show love, hate or progression. This is in order to make my project more sophisticated and have less of an amateur feel to it. I found photos that i had been given of when my grandma travelled around America and decided to use these to create cottages and other works. Initially i looked into the work of artist John Stezaker and from this made a range of work based around the way he has worked. I feel this is successful and coherent as it has shown a very particular way of working, however i found that these were quite simple and not very interesting. Therefore i also tried this way of working in an analogue way as i felt this was make them more interesting and give me more opportunities to experiment. I found when doing these that the colour aspect of them was effective and something that i had not explored in depth and is something that i wanted to look into further as my project went on, however i also felt that they could be more interesting if i was able to add another dimension to them.

From this i decided to go back to how i had edited my initial images and began to experiment with layering the photos in order to create more collage and media effects. I feel this has worked successfully as these images are more interesting to me than the previous ones, i also looked into exploring different ways of presenting and editing the images, for example, putting one layer of the image in black and white, as opposed to all layers and making the image smaller with a large background as i feel this simplifies the image and makes it more unique and intriguing. However after doing this i was stuck for ideas on how to progress my work and transform it into something more throughout my studies, therefore i decided to find more images to work from which i could create new effects with.

I then found old photos from my grandma's house and decided to find any that may be useful or effective for me to use on my work. With these images i have done mostly analogue work as i felt again that this was the most effective part of my sketchbook. Therefore i looked at a range of artists and gained inspiration from their work, especially artists Amelie Petit Moreau, for her use of texture and line and Jim Goldburg due to his use of text with images. I wanted to add text to my work as i felt it would make it both more personal and bring the images back to my initial theme of love and hate. Therefore i interviewed my mother to gain some quotes which might be fitting to the subject matter. I feel these quotes improve effective in adding contest to the images however i would have liked to be able to refine the way i presented the text so it seemed more professional or fitting. When doing digital work with these images i was inspired by artists such as Alvin Langdon Coburn as he often layered different images to show time or mood.

I feel that some of this work is successful however i would have liked to have worked more laterally, however i do not feel i did and therefore should look into focusing on this more in the future so i can improve my work more.
