David hockney is a world renowned artists for a number of reasons as he creates painting of different things i different styles, however here i am focusing in his newest series of painting a range of people sitting down sometimes in a controlled environment or in their own environment, as i have seen in the RA in 2016 (82 portraits and 1 still life).
Hockney looks to portray visual truth within his work, despite his colourful and cubist style. I believe hockney successfully does this by showing the subjects natural atmosphere and emphasising the aspect of feeling over visuals, meaning he can often create quite awkward looking scenes, yet always manages to portray another sense of tranquility and acceptance.
I was pushed to look in more depth into his work as my original images of Louis has a similar style of normal people in their own atmosphere and surroundings. My work also correlates to this body of work as he worked with family and friends, something i also intend to do in order to gain the sense of love in my work. Form looking into these images further i have been inspired to not only attempt to take more photos in this style but also look into other family photos which i may be able to work into in a physical way which will therefore inform the later stages of my project. This will also allow me to use other materials such as paint, like hockney.
By combining Alec Soths approach of creating very real and natural photos with the emphasis of love and hockney's approach of creating an unposed and natural environment i believe i will create some effective work which, once i have put my own twist on it will be able to develop the idea of love and hate into a more mature and interesting piece.
