Alec soth is an american artist who creates artwork in the form on collections, from which he creates a book of predominantly photographs which show what he is looking into and often include themes such as people, journeys, culture and emotions. One of soths biggest intentions is to find beauty in unexpected places, something that he does very effectively, for example, in his images of hotel room doors in niagara, he shows both the ideal of love and also the genuine signs of love. As he said himself, it's both a place to get married, and a place to commit suicide, meaning that there is both love and hate shown within his work.

Soth also presents his work in a very simplistic and clear manner, with limited editing and distraction for the images by having only one image per every two page spread, with a white border. This definitely adds impact to his images as it shows nothing but what is needed to be seen, meaning the images have to be as high a quality as possible to be presentable.

I would like to transfer many of his qualities into my work in the end stages of this project as i feel his style and concepts are similar to my intent and therefore would be able to positively influence my work and thus make it to the best ability in a limited refinement.

For example, idea of using a variety of people to show their emotions and relationships throughout their lives is something i would like to progress with. Although i intend to use it through the way of audio and potentially video, i still believe it would be helpful to have some additional photos of the people i am interviewing, in the style of Soth .
