Throughout this project i feel that my research skills could definitely have been improved and expanded as i was not as involved in research as i could have been. For example, i did limited artist research and did not have strong dominating artists that informed my work strongly as i was focused more on my independent work. Although this was not a major problem i feel that i perhaps could have refined the quality of my outcome by looking into other artist which had explored using materials within the presentation of their work to inform where my ideas had stemmed from, as the use of t-shirts from 2D work is an unexplained or clearly evident jump. However i did do some artists research within my project and looked into s number of recommended artists from teachers as well as ones i had found myself, however few of them informed my work strongly as i often found them too late to really allow them to impact my work as a result of the short time frame given for the project. I do feel that this project is also lacking in first hand research and research beyond artists as i am looking into a social and sensitive topic. I feel that my work could have been further informed if i had done interviews or more evaluation on what i had done as it could have gained a stronger sense of intimacy through this, instead of just relying on my work alone to show that. However i did spark my project through research into interviews through magazines and i feel that this was very practical in finding a theme for my work as it gave me a strong base to work from which flowed through throughout, showing an effective subject matter. In this project it is clear that i was not customized for the jump form a-level to foundation for the need for strong research and believe my recording of research could have been improved as a result of this.
I believe a strong point of this project is definitely the idea development throughout my stages of my independent studies and how i have used different aspects of my progression to inform my next step clearly as there is an evident flow throughout my work. Within this project i consciously concentrated on using methods such as the creative process and the double diamond method which allowed me to record my journey in a crear way through planning my next steps through thumbnail sketches and then going on to do them and then using these trials to see what i feel works and inform my next ideas. For example when seeing that the use of collage was effective in creative an atmosphere that i wanted i was able to develop this concept and push it further by doing it on someone's arms to create more effect. I feel like my blog allowed dme to do this even more as i was able to analyse my work constantly in order to continually develop my ideas. I believe that my curation of initial ideas was imperative in this project and really allowed me to utilise my independent studies and refine my work as much as possible to gain a positive final piece.
As a further result of my idea development i feel my use of methods and materials is also positive as i have experimented widely with my use of mediums in order to create the effect that i wanted. For example i have trialled printmaking, drawing, stitch, painting with ink, acrylic and watercolor, collage, photography and a wide experimentation with text. I believe this this was imperative in the style of project that mine was as a result of the strong subject matter making it important that i am able to portray the right message in a sensitive way. There are clearly weaknesses in some aspects of the quality of my work and in some places i do not feel that i achieved my full potential, such as some painting and drawing was not of the highest quality in my opinion, such as the use of stitch to write and the use of text in some areas. I feel that overall it was an okay experimentation with materials and methods given the time frame, however i would have liked to experiment with a rider range of scale, given more time and resources, and look into adding potential colour and other primary research to inform my work.
I feel that i did do some evaluation and reflection all throughout my project which allowed me to refine my ideas and extend my thought process, this was a result of using the idea of the creative process to guide my studies. I feel that it is clear throughout my work that i have made conscious decisions which have resulted in new ideas and the progressions i have made, i also believe that i have documented this to an extent on my blog and have explained why i have decided to do many things, showing continual evaluation. Although i have not done a large amount of other reflection at the end of my project i have done it subconsciously and shown it on this review. I have gained limited peer reviews as i feel that as it was the first evaluation session, people were a little nervous to critique my work meaning that i have little peer assessment, however i have got some feedback that i need more primary research and clearer presentation of a wider range of ideas, especially for my final piece.
