3 NECESSARY COMPONENTS

FORM - a sense or wider visual appearance - allows one to build a foundation for work

CONTENT - what is being depicted - the artist's intentions or viewers interpretations

AESTHETIC - visualisation of the way it looks e.g use of colour - an ambiguous factor

My task is to form a chace generator which will determine these three components which i will then use to base the following stages of the ‘chance’ project on. After doing this i gained the following words -

FORM - hostile

CONTENT - women

AESTHETIC - line

Since having these words i have looked through various women related magazines and articles in order to find a strong subject topic which can inform and push my next studies.by doing this i have found an interview in an old vogue magazine form a female cancer patient. This interview contained a quote which stuck out to me and fits effectively with my chance words. ‘Under the forced jollity, the pain and fear on the faces of those i love makes mine harder to bear.’. I feel this quote will inform my work as it is something that has a wide range of options to explore and can be up for interpretation or more conceptual pieces.

Now i have this base i have decided to look into artists such as Jenny Holzer and Sophie Calle who use text in their work a lot. I also intend to look into a number of other artists such as Tracey who uses line in her work often and Jenny Saville who uses women as

her topic of choice.
