Although illustration has never been something i have ad a particular interest in,,i still greatly enjoyed this workshop. The idea of chance and the sense of freedom and interpretation that my given quite gave me was very beneficial for me am i allowed me to put my own fine art contemporary twist on my work instead of going down a more literal illustrative path. This workshop open my imagination up to see the different forms that fine at can come in, not just a pretty picture on a gallery wall, but an interactive and personal book.

The idea behind my book was simply a worsening headache which recovers after paracetamol is taken. I did this through a series of near identical drawings of a pair of eyes which gradually got darker and corroded as the book went on, then recovering after painkillers were taken, shown by red eyes, representing drug use. I consciously was not explicit on the cause of the headache as i feel different types of people would interpret it in different ways, for example teenagers would most likely associate it with a hangover whereas older people may associate it with stress or age related problems. I like this as the personal consequence of a book makes interpretation a likely result.

I like the final outcome of my book as it has a relatable theme and an interpretive aspect too. However i do feel as though the quality of drawing could be improved if i were given more time to refine the concept and drawing. In past studies watercolour has not been a material that i have used a lot to refine my abilities and this is definitely something i wish to do in my future studies as it allows one to do quick and effective colour exploration or creation of a specific atmosphere in planning of a piece. I feel that in specific drawing in the book such as the ‘paracetamol’ page the use of watercolour could be majorly refined, furthermore as i binded the book before completing the artwork i had no opportunity for mistake and consequently had to use all drawing i did in the final piece. Despite this i still believe the dull and corroding effect the watercolour gave was still effective to an extent.
